Make
or Break?
"Should
you junk that old arm-chair and replace it with a modern
new one, or is it worth investing a
little money and imagination to breathe new life
into an old piece?
Rachel Poad of Creative
Interior Design in Humshaugh (www.creativeinteriordesign.co.uk)
recommends powder
gilding an inexpensive picture frame to give the
impression of real gold-leaf gilding at a fraction
of the cost, or staining a wooden floor to give it
a new lease of life, perhaps even adding a pattern. “Good
design continues to strike a balance between the
past and the future” says Rachel. “It
is now more important than ever to use reclaimed,
recycled and local materials wherever possible.” She
recommends updating a kitchen by simply repainting
cupboards and changing knobs and restoring dull and
ageing wooden furniture with a coat of wax or varnish."
